This ace 80’s Japanese Stratocaster was recently in the workshop for a restoration. It had been stored for years in a garage after being used heavily by the customer. It needed new locking machineheads, so was fitted with Hipshot Tuners supplied by BTN Music. The bridge had to be detailed cleaned to remove the rust build up. The wiring had issues that needed sorting including a new push/pull pot to coil split the hotrail pickup. The frets were recrowned and handpolished along with a new handcut bone nut. The work was finished with a setup! |
At some point the original machineheads had been replaced with Sperzel locking tuners, these had been poorly fitted plus had seen better days and needed replacing. Due to the amount of holes in the headstock, the decision was made to fit Hipshot locking tuners, these have a special mounting plate, that fits onto the headstock without drilling any more holes. The new Hipshot tuners looked great, and we to position them so they covered most of the damaged area caused by the fitting of the Sperzels. |
The original 80's Fender tremolo had been replaced with a Wilkinson tremolo, this too had seen better days due to it being in storage. The decision was made to keep it, so it was detail cleaned and serviced to remove the rust and ensure it worked correctly. The push/push pot to out of phase the pickup was broken so it was replaced with a sturdy new push/pull pot. The rest of the electrics were also serviced at the same time. Next major job on the list was the recrown and fret polish of the frets, the fretwork transformed the look and feel of the frets! |
