Lakewood Acoustic fretwork

This lovely Lakewood acoustic was recently in as the owner was suffering with buzzing on certain frets.

As it turned out this was due to fret wear and a recrown was needed to solve the buzzing. Fortunately the guitar had been brought to us with the fret wear caught early, so the wear wasn't too bad, this meant a great result on the frets.

The earlier fretwear is caught, the better the results!

1974 Fender P Bass fret level and setup

This lovely 1974 Fender P Bass was in the workshop for an low setup, as it turned out, years of playing had worn the frets down unevenly, which is quite common with bass guitars.

The solution was a fret level, this is done while the neck is under string tension, with only the high frets being filed down to give a level board without removing too much from the frets.

Once the frets were level, they were the recrowned and hand polished to allow the low action the owner wanted.

1960's Burns Sonic Restoration

This lovely 1960's Burns Sonic was brought into the workshop as sadly the owner had passed away, leaving his restoration project on his guitar unfinished. His wife wanted the guitar's restoration completed, as he had owned the guitar since new, so was brought to us to finish bringing the guitar back to it's former glory.
The guitar had already been refinished, and with most of the original hardware present or replacements sourced. The only major part that was missing was the original bridge.
A new zero nut would also need to be made, as well as a full assembly and setup

The headstock was refitted with it's hardware, along with the original name badge. The zero nut was made out of bone, which was then stained black, to match in with the original one that would of been on the guitar.

The some of the original electronics had been replaced, along with the scratchplate (the original had disintegrated) but there were still a few issues with the wiring that needed to be sorted.

Once completed, the sourced 1960 vintage bridge arrived and the guitar was reassembled for a setup. Some era correct screw were ordered in too as the originals had been lost sometime in the past.

This was a really rewarding restoration and it was great to be able to restore this guitar back to how the owner originally had it new, back in the early 1960's.

Rickenbacker Fretwork

This lovely and well gigged Rickenbacker was in the workshop for a fret recrown.

It was particular unusual as you don't see many with a natural finish!

The guitar was masked off before the frets were marked, filed and then hand polished, returning the curved profile back to the frets and giving a much smoother feel to them.

A new set of strings completed the work before the customer collected his pride and joy!
