This lovely 8 string Agile guitar, already customised by the owner stripping back and refinishing the guitar, was recently in the workshop for a complete EMG rewire along with a full setup! This stunning USA custom shop Fender Telecaster, previously owned by James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins was in the workshop to have it’s original high mass bridge fitted along with a setup! The photos don’t do the guitar justice, we’ve never seen a neck as pretty as on this guitar! The guitar was brought off James through an official Smashing Pumpkins eBay auction, the person who brought it fitted a standard Telecaster bridge that didn’t match. The new owner brought it into us to have it put back to the way it originally was meant to be!
As part of the setup, the radius on the bridge saddles was reset to the fingerboard radius to allow an even low action. Once the setup was complete, the guitar was ready for the customer to collect.
This ace early Mexican Fender P Bass was recently in the workshop for a new hand cut bone nut and setup, along with some tlc as the mini restoration was for a surprise birthday present! The owner had previously tried to fit a premanufactured bone nut with limited success, causing damage to the bass and resulting with an unplayable bass! The original nut has been removed and someone had tried to poorly fit a premanufactured bone nut, it wasn't seated correctly and the action at the nut was unplayable! Below shows some of the process of making a new bone nut, hand cut to fit the bass perfectly. The new one on the bottom and the old one on the top, notice the curved bottom of the new nut, some Fender nut slots are curved to the radius of the fingerboard, so a flat bottomed nut will never seat correctly. The new nut fitted with some work done to tidy up the damage at the end of the fingerboard They’d also badly damaged the fingerboard removing the original plastic nut. This was solved by mixing rosewood dust together with special wood glue, then the filled area sanded back once the mixture had dried. All finished, the bass was setup and ready for the owner to be surprised on his birthday with his fully restored bass!
This lovely and rare 1970’s Eko C29 was recently in the workshop to have it’s broken control pots replaced with mini CTS pots! With the new pots fitted, the tone of the guitar improved along with the reliability. New matching knobs were fitted replacing the old broken ones, before it was ready for the customer to collect!
This ace UK handmade Stark bass was recently in the workshop for a setup! One of the issues the customer was having was the output of the bass was far to aggressive compared to his other basses, so we lowered the active pickup away from the strings to reduce the effect of the pickup.
A small issue that had to be overcome was that one of the adjustment screws had completely rusted and striped it's head. We carefully removed it and replaced all the screws with new ones to allow the pickup height to be set correctly! |
