The screw had worn away the wood so much a new mahogany block insert had to be cut and fitted before the damaged area could be sorted!
The hole that had formed due to the loose screw wearing away the wood as the guitar was used. The hole was so deep and wide that the loose wood had to be cut away and a mahogany block had to be made to plug the hole The aged mahogany plug block was cut. It was such a tight fit that when it was glued and tapped in, the glue worked it’s way out the end grain! Once dry, the block was cut back flush to the body. |
