The solution was a new hand carved bone saddle made, matching the 12 inch fingerboard radius, allowing a much easier playable action!
The process of the new saddle being made, the new saddle was hand cut and shaped out of bone. The original plastic saddle was broken in several places so was due for a replacement anyway. The radius of the new saddle was shaped to the exact radius of the fingerboard, giving a much more even action across all the strings. Once the radius was set, the compensation for the intonation was filed into the new saddle, the old saddle is used as a template to ensure the correct intonation, with final tweaks being done if needed once the guitar has been restrung with fresh strings. |
