This lovely Fender MusicMaster bass was brought in for a restoration. The customers partner had owned it almost from new, it had been sat for many years unplayed, until the decision was made to get it back to a playable condition so she could start using it again! It had certain seen some rough gigging, with a lot of smoke staining from back when smoking was allowed in pubs. The main issue was the scratchplate had a nasty crack running down through the controls, which made it almost impossible to plug in and remove a lead! |
These pictures show the removal of the scratchplate for the repair of the crack. You can see the colour difference from the exposed body to the area covered by the scratchplate. The plastic had chipped off in certain places, and was fragile, there was an existing metal plate that holding the whole thing together. The crack was resin glued together from the back forward, with some copper shielding added to re-enforce the repair before the controls were remounted. Interestingly the pickup is actually for a 6 string guitar, this shows it was the original pickup, these basses are well known for having an unique sound, along with the vintage capacitor, the pickup certainly added to this sound! |
