This ace early Mexican Fender P Bass was recently in the workshop for a new hand cut bone nut and setup, along with some tlc as the mini restoration was for a surprise birthday present!
The owner had previously tried to fit a premanufactured bone nut with limited success, causing damage to the bass and resulting with an unplayable bass!

The original nut has been removed and someone had tried to poorly fit a premanufactured bone nut, it wasn't seated correctly and the action at the nut was unplayable!

The new one on the bottom and the old one on the top, notice the curved bottom of the new nut, some Fender nut slots are curved to the radius of the fingerboard, so a flat bottomed nut will never seat correctly.

They’d also badly damaged the fingerboard removing the original plastic nut. This was solved by mixing rosewood dust together with special wood glue, then the filled area sanded back once the mixture had dried.

All finished, the bass was setup and ready for the owner to be surprised on his birthday with his fully restored bass!
