This ace Martin acoustic was recently in the workshop for a full refret after several years of heavy gigging! Refretting the traditional way as learnt at Totnes School of Guitarmaking Once installed the frets were then dressed sorting their edges in the process. The next step of the process was the precising level and recrowning process. During the recrowning process, filing the profile back into the fret after they had been levelled. The red line on top of the fret must not be touched by the file, to preserve the level of the frets The recrowned frets, the next step was a hand polish to remove file marks and bring the frets up to a smooth shine. With all the work complete the guitar was restrung and ready to be gigged once again!
