This Mexican Stratocaster was brought in for a hardware upgrade. The customer had previously upgraded the pickups himself to Bare Knuckle Pickups and upgraded the electronics. He felt the hardware was letting the guitar down, so he wanted to upgrade to better bridge and machineheads. He had a set in mind for the machineheads, and we advised that a Callaham tremolo would be a very suitable upgrade. The guitar would also be setup while it was in the workshop! |
The customer had decided on locking Fender machineheads with the F on the back of them. These turned out being a special order item from Fender as they pretty much are only fitted on Mexican deluxe models. The headstock needed to be drilled out to fit the new machineheads. We drilled out the back of the post holes, but left the fronts as is. This meant that the customer could fit any type of machinehead in the future, if he decided to revert back to a more vintage looking tuner. The old screwholes were plugged and the wood stained to match in with the aged headstock before the new ones were fitted! |
